RRC Commissioner David Porter Conducts Statewide Tour Back to Blog
Commissioner David Porter will kick off a statewide tour of the Railroad Commission district offices in San Angelo today to visit with agency staff after a busy Legislative Session. The Railroad Commission employs over 700 people across Texas, with approximately 40 percent of the Commission staff located in field offices outside of Austin. “It is important that staff has confidence in our leadership in Austin, and I want to reassure them that we are working hard to maintain the Railroad Commission’s status as the premier oil and gas regulatory agency in the country,” Commissioner Porter said. “I am excited to share with the district offices that the Legislature provided us the needed funding to overhaul our Information Technology Systems and to achieve salary parity with other state agencies. I look forward to the opportunity to sincerely thank all of our dedicated employees for their hard work.” This week, Commissioner Porter will visit the district offices in San Angelo, Midland and Abilene. Over the summer, the Commissioner plans to meet with the offices in San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi, Kilgore, Wichita Falls and Pampa. He will also be meeting with trade associations, oil and gas companies and constituents about legislation impacting the Commission and the oil and gas industry. “Texas has always been a leader in energy production and regulation, and with the recent surge in oil and gas being produced in the state, it is more important now than ever that the Railroad Commission continue to perform its vital functions that protect the health and safety of our citizens and the environment while encouraging efficient energy production.”
