Permian Basin Drilling Permits Back to Blog
Can it get any busier in the Permian Basin? If you haven’t noticed the Midland/Odessa housing shortage, low employment rates, crazy traffic, long lines at restaurants, and the overall pace of the oil & gas industry, you must not live or work here. Here at WellReports.com, we know quite well what’s going on. When Keith Anderson, our patriarch, started this company (Anderson’s New Locations & Anderson’s Drilling Reports) in 1960, his yellow paper printed newsletters for the Permian basin averaged 6-8 drilling permits (1 page) on the good days. As a contrast, on this past Monday, June 2nd, we published 142 drilling permits (15 pages) for the west Texas and southeast New Mexico area. In April, the total month’s count exceeded 1500 permits. A year ago, it was nearer 1000 permits. Further, in Texas Railroad Commission Districts 7c, 8 and 8A, the rig count routinely exceeds 450 currently drilling units each day, up from an average 110 in 2009.
It appears the staff at the Railroad Commission are working many Saturdays to keep up with this unprecedented drilling permit application level. Our staff at WellReports.com works 7 days a week presently to keep up with the workload. We love it! We believe it is now more important than ever to stay abreast of who is drilling where. Although your inbox may be presently filled with work orders, the amount of competition for oilfield products and services is more than ever. Knowing where your existing customers are working, in addition to prospective new customers is paramount to your own success. Don’t miss this opportunity!
